About our Play Area
Based in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire.
Where The Little Ones Play is a child led play area, aimed at children aged 1 to 6. Offering a variety of hands on activities in our Play sessions, as well as group sessions led by an experienced early years teacher in our Music Time and Get Writing groups, our sessions help your children to develop their cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills - all whilst having FUN!
My name is Carla
I am an experienced teacher and a mum of two little ones, living in the local area. We love getting out and about, exploring and spending time with our friends and family.
Throughout my life, early education and the early years have always been a keen interest. My career in childcare started many years ago, back in high school, where I completed a baby sitting course and a GSCE in Child Development. I then went on to complete a BTEC National Diploma in Early Years before attending The University of Hull to complete my teaching degree. From university, I spent many years working with Key Stage 1 with children aged between 5 and 7, before becoming an Assistant Headteacher and then Acting Deputy Headteacher for some years. After having my son, I decided to take a step back from the leadership aspect of my role and I became an Early Years Lead, which saw me complete my National Professional Qualification in Early Years Leadership.
More recently I have had my second baby and it has been whilst on maternity leave, that I have made the decision that I would like to be there more for my children as a mum. This is where the idea for ‘Where The Little Ones Play’ was born. This has allowed me to combine my passion and experience for early education to develop an early years play environment, providing different classes and the opportunity to learn through play whilst most importantly having lots of fun.
